About Prairie in Progress
At Prairie in Progress, we believe in more than just landscaping—we believe in legacy. Our mission is to replace traditional turf with native prairies that are low-maintenance, ecologically rich, and beautiful through every season. Every yard we transform helps restore biodiversity, reduce pollution, and reconnect people with the land.
We’re seeking a hands-on, reliable, and mission-driven Part-Time Landscaper to join our growing team. You’ll be responsible for the implementation phase of our prairie transformation projects—the crucial work that happens after the contract is signed. Think sheeting, seeding, soil prep, and supporting early-stage growth. This is meaningful outdoor work that contributes to a better future, one yard at a time.
Role Responsibilities
You’ll be trained on our process and work alongside the owner (and sometimes, his family crew!) to complete the following tasks:
Site Preparation
Assist with turf removal and deployment of plastic sheeting to solarize lawns
Ensure edges are secure and sheets are correctly aligned to maximize vegetation kill
Light landscaping tasks like raking, weed clearing, and dead grass removal
Seeding & Soil Prep
Lightly rake/scarify soil, especially on sloped areas
Distribute native seed blends accurately and evenly using broadcast methods
Use hand rollers or tamping tools to ensure seed-to-soil contact
Perform slope-specific seed pressing and raking as needed
Maintenance Support
Conduct site visits for post-installation maintenance (watering, trimming, weeding)
Identify and remove invasive species
Assist with light mowing or cutting back growth during Year 1 establishment
Maintain tools and help organize gear between jobs
Who You Are
You love being outdoors and don’t mind getting your hands dirty
You’re reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented
You take pride in doing high-quality, meaningful work
You’re comfortable lifting 30–50 lbs and performing repetitive physical tasks
You have a positive attitude and communicate well with a small team
Bonus: You have experience in landscaping, agriculture, or natural resource management
